The AARP has a new leader. They will appoint veteran insider Jo Ann Jenkins as its new chief executive. More than 40 percent of AARP’s 37-million members are not retired, so the organization must help them learn to apply for jobs online, among other digital skills, Jenkins says.

Ms. Jenkins is now vice president and chief operating officer of the group, which is based in Washington, D.C., and she previously served as president of the AARP Foundation, overseeing programs for low-income older adults. She will become the AARP’s first female permanent CEO when she takes office Sept. 1, replacing Barry Rand.

Ms. Jenkins told the Washington Post that her priorities will be to rein in health-care costs for older Americans and help AARP members, many of whom have not retired, navigate career issues and improve their digital skills in an uncertain economy.
