The CEO is the Chief Everything Officer. The CEO sets the strategic direction for all aspects of the business. That is a whole lot of stuff to pay attention to.

Everyone in the C-Suite wants their thing to be the big thing. That is natural. There is a lot of competition for oxygen. That is just the way it is.

So … a case must be made, time and time again, why starting a determined journey to being a digital business must be a priority. Sometimes this may not be too difficult to do. Other times it may near impossible.

One of the huge things to focus on, for the CEO, is to build trust that we are charting the right course for our digital journey and initiatives.

So how confident can the CEO be that the digital goals and strategies will be executed?

This may not be the “right way” to see it but it is an accurate perception. More CEOs feel these programs are on track to deliver the strategic goals when a CDO and CEO is responsible than when a CIO is responsible.

In the US over half of CEOs put digital change at the top of the boardroom agenda while in the Asia Pacific countries where the survey was conducted it is more seen as way to support other strategic priorities.

For those who like digital transformation technology trends: as you can see in the infographic below this article the key digital technology trends according to the responding CEOs for the next 2-3 years will be:

  • The Internet of Things (41 percent)
  • Cloud computing (35 percent)
  • Mobile computing (31 percent)

That’s not what you’ll see in many other digital technology trends lists but it does reflect a reality that is often not that of the futurists among us.
