Internet of caring things

Talk about disruption. This is a big deal.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances, and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and connectivity which enables these things to connect and exchange data.

This is creating opportunities for more direct integration of the physical world into computer-based systems, resulting in efficiency improvements, economic benefits, and reduced human exertions.

You probably already have them at home or work.

Is your business or nonprofit ready for the Internet of Caring Things?

In a trend briefing from Trendwatching.com, they provide an excellent overview of why we all need to get ready.

As a digital executive, we have some great initiatives that can come out of this trend if we get ahead of it.

A network of connected objects brought to life by a clear mission: to actively care for consumers – their physical and mental wellbeing, homes, loved ones, and more.

Consider this:

In 2005, there were 2.5 billion connected devices, most PCs, smartphones, tablets.

By 2020, there will be over 30 billion connected devices, most not PCs, smartphones, tablets.

The global market value of IoT is projected to reach $7.1 trillion.

Of course, there is a huge opportunity here.  Trendwatching identifies five to think about.

  1. Internet of healthy things
  2. Internet of mindful things
  3. Internet of safety things
  4. Internet of security things
  5. Internet of family things
