Happiness at work comes from God’s word
Are you ecstatically happy in your job?
- Luke 11:27–28 (NASB) —While Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Happy is the womb that bore You and the breasts at which You nursed.” But He said, “On the contrary, happy are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”
- The Greek word “ecstasy” (ἔκστασις, ekstasis) means “standing outside of” and refers to the experience of having the mind cut off from ordinary sense perceptions. These experiences are often referred to as mystical or ecstatic experiences.
- Does Jesus amaze me? Am I stunned by His beauty and brilliance? Am I rejoicing greatly in the Holy Spirit?
- Revelation 1:3 —Happy is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near.
- Revelation 22:7 — “And behold, I am coming quickly. Happy is he who heeds the words of the prophecy of this book.”
Happiness comes from the joyful sounds of God
Psalm 89:15 — How happy are the people who know the joyful sound! O Master, they walk in the light of Your countenance.
We seem a little reluctant to talk about the ecstatic experience. Is that for mystics and weirdo’s I think?
Maybe it’s not just for kooks.
- Doesn’t Jesus just rock my world?
- Am I out of my mind at what Jesus is doing?
- Am I crazy in love with Jesus?
- Am I stunned at His beauty and brilliance?
Psalm 100 Be Thankful –A psalm of thanksgiving. Let the whole earth shout triumphantly to the Lord! Serve the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
Happiness at work comes from the discipline of God.
- Job 5:17 — “Behold, how happy is the man whom God reproves, So do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.
- Psalm 94:12 —Happy is the man whom You chasten, O Master, And whom You teach out of Your law;
Happiness at work comes from not being evil.
Psalm 1:1–2 —How happy is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the Master, And in His law he meditates day and night.
Happiness at work comes from the fear of God.
- Hebrews 12: 2 — For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
- Psalm 112:1 —Praise the Master! How happy is the man who fears the Master, Who greatly delights in His commandments.
- Psalm 128:1 —How happy is everyone who fears the Master, Who walks in His ways.
- Proverbs 28:14 —How happy is the man who fears always, But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.
Good point from Psalm 128 that you quoted: “How happy is everyone who fears the Master, Who walks in His ways.” All those other things we’re afraid of will drift away.
