At work, we get used to performance reviews, 360 surveys, feed-back sessions (formal and informal) and surveys where we are tested in terms of our competence. Some of it is helpful. Much of it is not. For people of faith, there is a better way. It is the way of Jesus. The Holy Spirit will enlighten us.
Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus the Messiah is in you — unless indeed you fail the test?
2 Corinthians 13:5
How does our faith at work look like when we assess ourselves with this as the standard?
What might we consider our charge to be as we work out our faith at work? How are we doing with our co-workers? How are we doing with our supervisor? What did our peacemaking look like today? How merciful were we? How humble did we act?
- Fortunate [blessed] are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
- Fortunate are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
- Fortunate are the humble, for they will inherit the earth.
- Fortunate are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
- Fortunate are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
- Fortunate are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
- Fortunate are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
- Fortunate are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.”
