The way I see it: Work is a very good thing. There is great joy in work (most days). Work makes for stunning days. I can’t imagine not working. I don’t see myself retiring.

Why it matters: God has ordained work for our good and for our benefit. Work is a reward, in and of itself. The lazy have no reward. Desperation is their destination.

God’s goal: The goal is to show our faith at work. Others should see our joy at working. There is nothing better for us than work. The work is the reward.

• Ecclesiastes 2:24 (CSB) — 24 There is nothing better for a person than to eat, drink, and enjoy his work. I have seen that even this is from God’s hand,
• Proverbs 14:23 (CSB) — 23 There is profit in all hard work, but endless talk leads only to poverty.
• Ecclesiastes 3:22 (CSB) — 22 I have seen that there is nothing better than for a person to enjoy his activities because that is his reward. For who can enable him to see what will happen after he dies?
• Ecclesiastes 5:19 (CSB) — 19 Furthermore, everyone to whom God has given riches and wealth, he has also allowed him to enjoy them, take his reward, and rejoice in his labor. This is a gift of God,

Good news: There is no lack of work. There is always more to be done. When we have joy with the work God has given us to do, we are fulfilled.

God is God: God could have organized a world where there is no work. God is God. This is the way God wants it to be. That brings us great comfort.
