CEO

What is the role of the CEO when it comes to building a digital business and the change required to get there?

More and more, CEOs are taking over responsibility over the leadership that is necessary. This is a new business model, in some cases. You can’t delegate the culture change that is necessary.

In some cases, they are also creating a role that is sometimes called the Chief Digital Officer. It may be a new position or an add on to an existing role (like the COO, CMO or CIO).

What are the views and plans of CEOs regarding digital change and what role do they play in the digital business strategy of their organizations? Some surveys suggest more than 50 percent of CEOs put creating a digital business at the top of their current strategies.

Of course, there is a huge variance considering the size or industry we are talking about. It is increasingly important to most companies and their CEOs. Perhaps it is even more important to smaller companies that rely on technology to deliver innovative and cost effective products into the marketplace.

The CEO is critical to get the resources that are needed. This is an investment in the future of the company. Only the CEO can clear the deck to make it happen. The tough trade offs are the CEOs alone to make. Yes, it is lonely at the top some days.
