Teamwork is essential in business. Volumes have been written on it. There is current a dearth of digital leadership due to the fast paced nature of this business change. How do we move ahead without talent to draw from?

Intel when faced with extremely rapid growth and new markets some ten, or more years ago, used to describe their management style as ‘Two in the Box’, meaning in their case the experienced leader would manage with their likely replacement in duopoly slowly taking responsibilities. One leader, one mentor and team of really sharp staff.

How would you frame this up?

Little hierarchy. Flattened everything out. Every person is a leader, paired with another and supported by a team.

Personal growth. Allow twice as many people to have leadership opportunities – an inherent succession plan that results in strong employee growth in addition to company and revenue growth.

More creative outcomes. Choose the pairs carefully – align paired leaders for maximum contrast in thinking and analytical styles. For example, product management leads could include one partner who is “left brained” and one who is “right brain” dominant. One is linear in his style; the other creative. The result is a manifestation of true synergy.

If there is one constant headache for any enterprise it is finding the right staff, and there is no place where this is harder than in the new skills for Digital Business. And right at the top of the list is finding the right person to head up and grow your new Digital Business to reach the ambitious goals that the board has set, and probably created financial market expectation around. here is plenty of advice on what these extraordinarily rare and gifted people should do, but is this really enough to guarantee success in finding and ongoing operations?
